Presence Festival with OSI & Sol Gabetta

On the weekend of Pentecost at LAC concerts and artistic initiatives volition exist offered with the famous Swiss-Argentine soloist and the OSI under the leadership of its principal manager Markus Poschner. The aim is to experiment with alternatives to the formal framework of the classical symphonic concert with soloists, which has remained practically unchanged from the end of the XNUMXth century to the present day. The public will therefore be able to notice new ways of enjoying the concerts, inspired by the original setting in which the pieces (especially from the kickoff part of the nineteenth century) were composed, conceived and performed and too taking into consideration the scenic and theatrical component in the spaces. multifunctional and creative of the LAC.

Co-ordinate to Sol Gabetta, much of the historical repertoire requires greater attention precisely to the theatrical dimension of the performances: we demand to call up about every item that can influence both the way of playing and the mode of enjoying the music, from the lighting, to the arrangement of the stage and of the public.

Markus Poschner also underlines the importance of this experimentation: «We wanted something that broke away from the regular concert life, which as well constitutes the majority of our business. We wanted to make this gift, not just me and Sol, but the unabridged Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, because we are thirsty for new directions: we are looking for meaning, for other perspectives ». Three editions of the festival, created in co-production with LAC, are initially planned, at least until 2024, under the artistic direction of Sol Gabetta together with Balthazar Soulier.

The concert picture

The project Presence, since its offset preview in May 2021, information technology has also been an opportunity to make original video footage, in particular a special one concert movie with the participation of REC from Lugano and highly specialized audio engineers. Among them the technicians of The Mono Company, founded and directed by Damien Quintard, rise star among sound engineers, collaborator of Teodor Currentzis among others. The making of the concert moving-picture show, through a very careful post-product phase, up to its official presentation to the public, was documented past an unabridged episode of the famous German classical music broadcast KlickKlack, directed by Alexander Hellbrügge (visible on the site).

Kunsthaus Zürich is "Take care: art and medicine"

Starting from the works of the collection of Kunsthaus Zurich, the fruitful interaction betwixt disease and pain, medicine, treatment and healing is retraced in half-dozen chapters through 300 works, of which over 250 come up from effectually xl national and international lenders. Some ancient examples date back to the fifteenth century, while the most contempo works were created in 2022 specifically for the exhibition.

The exhibition, arranged in non-chronological order, includes a wide range of expressive means, including drawing, painting and sculpture, but also video, spatial installation and performance. The works focus on physical infirmity: the themes embrace the "gilt age" of medicine, "pandemics and prophylaxis", "complementary medicine and self-care", "the diagnostic gaze", the "organization hospital and nursing "," medication and research "and finally" people at the crossroads "betwixt the normal body and the singular trunk. Illustrious names are combined with young female artists in their twenties to acknowledge the wide spectrum and fascinating development of the contend concerning the ill trunk.

The purpose of the exhibition, conceived and conceived by Cathérine Hug, is not to present fine art as an illustrator of medicine, but to foster through dialogue the mutual understanding of two systems at the basis of our gild. Through its sensory and intuitive interpretation, art tin make a key contribution to the understanding of interconnected systems such as torso and heed, disease and healing, faith and scientific discipline. Art and medicine are physically tangible and generate empathy, simply they can besides pb to significant divergences between those involved.

For a long fourth dimension medicine was not given the weight that this discipline has today; similarly, even today the importance of art in medicine is not recognized as it mayhap deserves. The Church has long opposed the sciences in general and medical research in particular since the latter, with its ain evolutionary approach, questioned the superior divine order. A meticulous selection of exemplary works from the nineteenth century, "the golden historic period of medicine", with significant collections from the medical collection of the University of Zurich, the graphic drove of the Zurich Polytechnic and the Musée de l'Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux in Paris, highlights several aesthetically compelling milestones, but also aberrations in the history of medicine. Real objects, that is historical specimens not conceived in themselves as art, are combined in an associative dialogue with the works of art. Undoubtedly, the matrimony between art and medicine is particularly axiomatic when the scientist or the healer and the artist converge in a single person, equally is the case in the numerous examples from Andrea Vesalio to George Chicotot, from Lotte Luise Volger to Adolf Fleischmann, passing through Martin Kippenberger and Panteha Abareshi.

In the nineteenth century at that place were substantial advances not only in the sectors of industry, mobility and communication; medicine also reached key goals in antisepsis, anesthesia and consequently in surgery, epidemiology and diagnostics. Hand in hand with technological evolutions, artists began to become more and more interested in the imaging techniques of medicine.

The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the Institut für Evolutionäre Medizin (IEM) of the University of Zurich and with the research group "Rethinking Art History through Disability".

Photographic exhibitions: the season of Casa Pessina restarts in Mendrisio

Anticipated by a vernissage on Thursday 17 at eighteen.00, the flavour of photographic exhibitions at Casa Pessina in Ligornetto - the space that the city of Mendrisio dedicates to the photographic scene - starts once more in 2022 with the 16th chapter of a flavour that the Mendrisio Art Museum opened 7 years ago and has been able to cleave out an important part equally a specific and defended exhibition venue.
Facing Scapes is a "iv-handed" project that brings together the results of two different photographers: Fabio Tasca and Giuseppe Chietera. The exhibition, curated by Barbara Paltenghi Malacrida, proposes their corresponding reflections on the theme of the landscape and on the human relationship with space through an exhibition that sees the works coexist in a dialogue of vision admitting relatively to geographically distant places. A contiguity of distance that allows an expressive and lucid comparison betwixt Fabio Tasca'southward black and white images and Giuseppe Chietera'southward color ones. Equally Vega Tescari writes in the beautiful critical essay in the catalog «The photographed spaces expect at each other and dialogue, only at a distance, they are not reflected in each other. They outline a concrete and physical path, just also a mental and imaginary one. The black and white of Tasca and the colour of Chietera belong to the same geography, largely indefinable: places that the gaze transforms into views or panoramas. The reference to the view (scape) mentioned in the title has an interrogative rather than an enunciative character. If information technology weren't for the captions that point towards a sure place, it would non be possible to say where you are ».

Corpuscles of Krause

Corpuscles of Krause is an unusual drove of verses, in which for the first time the poet moves away from the novel in verse and adopts the short dimension. Cities, archaeological excavations, quantum physics, mourning, the world of work, disease, botany come together, without e'er abandoning the almost civil and profound, intimate vein. Corpuscles, thermal and sensory stresses that emerge, similar a breath or perhaps a trace.

BrainCircle. Emotions: the point of view of men

Curated by Clara Caverzasio e Viviana Kasam Joy, the project was born from the collaboration between BrainCircleLugano and BrainCircleItalia: "Emotions are an essential part of everyone'due south life. They condition thoughts and actions, they guide our behaviors. They influence the way we think, likewise equally all areas of our life: from wellness to school, from courts to art, from politics to sport, to the economy ". Even so a great emotional ignorance persists, a great tendency to ignore this cardinal attribute of life. Indeed, until a few years ago, emotions were considered an obstacle to rationality, an exquisitely feminine handicap, which made clear and positive thinking incommunicable.

"At present - proceed the curators - cheers to neuroscience we know that on the opposite, emotions depend on the mind rather than oppose it, and play a part of bang-up importance both in evolution and in training and cognitive processes. In fact, the ability to limited and experience emotions not but makes our lives fuller and more colorful but is indispensable for implementing rational behaviors ".

BrainForum: Emotions

Halfway through the journeying undertaken with Emotions - The Traveling BrainForum on emotions defended to female person scientists -, with this new series of Pills nosotros also desire to requite a phonation to the male universe. A earth in which emotions are oft condemning to repression, sometimes experienced as a weakness and, in the best of cases, unheard.

Emotions: the point of view of men. You meet them

Internationally renowned scientists and experts volition talk about the almost innovative research on emotions. To inaugurate the series, on March 9, a heart specialist, Stefanos Demertzis, head of cardiac surgery at the Cardiocentro Ticino in Lugano (CH), associate professor at the University of Bern (CH) and the University of Italian Switzerland, Lugano (CH). And not surprisingly, since for centuries the heart has been considered the seat of the soul and emotions. However, endless subsequent discoveries in the field of neuroscience and cerebral science have demonstrated the decisive role of the central nervous system in the onset and regulation of emotions, downgrading the middle to a mere pump, albeit crucial for the survival of homo beings.

Today, even so, thanks to the latest discoveries, we return to pay close attending to this organ, and to the dumbo and unexpected dialogue it maintains with the brain. Considered until a few years ago, by the social sciences themselves, piffling more than an obstacle for the mind, emotions and then imposed themselves as the object of study of scientific enquiry, so much and then that in 2005 - and precisely in Switzerland - the first enquiry center in the world defended to the interdisciplinary report of emotions, CISA, Center Interfacultaire des Sciences Affectives - Université de Genève, where 120 researchers from the well-nigh diverse disciplines work: neuroscientists, philosophers, psychologists, researchers in social sciences and medicine, economists , ethologists, jurists, computer researchers….

  • Talking to the states about what has been called the Revolution of emotions, the managing director of the center, David Sanders and the Caput of the Research Unit of Applied Affective Sciences of the Geneva Middle, Marcello Mortillaro. With them, on March sixteen, nosotros will review the state of the art of research in this vast surface area.
  • The indologist Giuliano Boccali, one of the leading experts in Indian civilization and literature, former professor at the University of Venice Ca 'Foscari and the Academy of Milan, on March 23 will offer usa a series of reflections on the different way in which cultures and Western and Eastern societies await at emotions and the brain, and the relationship between them. This will highlight the entirely Western prejudice that emotions are not educable (if ever we talk about repressing them or letting them manifest without restraint), in the face of millennial practices in Republic of india or Japan aimed at cultivating and refining them.
  • On March thirty it volition therefore be the turn of the neuroscientist Giorgio Vallortigara, professor of Neuroscience at the Center for Mind-Brain Sciences of the University of Trento, of which he was also manager, with whom we will broaden our gaze on emotions fifty-fifty more. Author of numerous studies and publications, among the most recent "Thoughts of the fly with a crooked head" Adelphi, 2021, and "Built-in Knowing", MIT Printing, 2021, Vallortigara will assist us understand what animals' emotions say about united states of america, including anthropomorphism and "anthropodynamic".
  • Moshé Bar, one of the most eminent cognitive neuroscientists of his generation, director of the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Enquiry Eye at Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv, will talk on Apr six almost how and why our brains are constantly agile, fifty-fifty when nosotros are awake and not there. we realize that we are grinding thoughts: to this constant wandering of the mind, of which we are not fully aware, our brain dedicates upwardly to 47% of its activity. Just a few days ago his latest book (Mindwandering. How Your Constant Mental Drift Tin Improve Your Mood and Boost Your Creativity) was released which contains years of research on this singular activity of our encephalon, patently incomprehensible from an evolutionary indicate of view, and in in which emotions play an important office.
  • The series closes on April thirteen, the philosopher and economist, Matteo Motterlini, full professor of Philosophy of science at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele Academy of Milan, and specialized in neuroeconomics, who will explain to united states how nosotros are not those rational and infallible "utility" calculators described in economic models. Indeed, as emerges from the latest contributions of neuroeconomics, our economic choices practice not necessarily take to do with money, but with our emotions: they are the detail product of an incessant negotiation between passion and reason, between affects and cognitions and of the synapse play of the corresponding brain areas.

The meetings tin be followed in live streaming on Youtube and on the Facebook pages of BrainCircle Lugano and BrainCircle Italia. The recordings volition then exist available on the sites BrianCircle Lugano e BrainCircle Italia.
